Since the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine on 24.02.22, the democratic world has made a large progress in recognising the risks for international peace and security order connected to Russia’s imperial politics proclaimed by president Putin.
After a year of war, marked by the regular military attacks on the civilian infrastructure and the awful war crimes conducted by Russian soldiers during their occupation, there is an urgent need to support the reestablishment of the human security, including on the de-occupied areas. This means enabling the Ukrainian people not only to defend their country but also to stabilize its socio-political institutions, thus, providing a ground for a post-war reconstruction and further democratisation. A strong civil society is the key actor in the stabilisation process, which is especially challenging on the de-occupied territories and in other areas strongly impacted by war.
In connection to the war’s first year horrible commemoration date, with this event the international civil society platform CivilMPlus raises awareness for more efficient international support of the ongoing civil society efforts for stabilizing and rebuilding Ukraine and highlights the wider domestic context in which civil society operates.
In their joint call, the Ukraine-based civil society leaders will map the key challenges and provide specific recommendations for the urgent political support and technical assistance as well as raise awareness about the importance of the rights-based approach.
