Andrei Bogdan: I would allow Donetsk and Luhansk the official Russian language, if they are the territory of Ukraine
The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Bogdan, spoke in favour of granting a regional status of the Russian language to a certain district of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, under the condition that they are part of Ukraine.
“Personally, my opinion is that I would allow Donetsk and Luhansk to be state – Ukrainian, regional – Russian and under the condition that they are the territory of Ukraine,” Bogdan said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
At the same time, he spoke out against granting Russian the status of the second state language. According to the head of Zelenski’s office, this will not solve the issue of reintegration of the territories, but “deepen the conflict”.
In response to the journalist’s remark, wouldn’t Kharkiv and Odessa want to recognize Russian as a regional language after that, Bogdan replied: “Let’s make everyone speak Ukrainian, shall we? Then let’s stop at the fact that Ukraine will have Ternopil, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
“Should we look for compromises or should we impose the opinion of some part of Ukraine?” – he added.
