Valentina Cherevatenko

Since 1993 until now, she has been the coordinating chairperson of the Regional Human Rights Organisation ‘Union of the “Don Women”’ (http://donwomen.ru) and since 2013 has been the chairperson of the board of the Foundation for Civil Society Development and Human Rights “Don Women” and a political science doctoral student.

In various years, together with a team from the Don Women Union, she has carried out a series of studies and projects in regions of conflict in the North and South Caucasus. She is one of the initiators of the Women Peace-Builders Alliance of Russia and Georgia in 2009. She is the initiator of the dialogue meetings “Russia – Ukraine”, the first of which took place in 2015 between female leaders and specialists in helping professions from both countries.

In 2005, she was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize as part of 100 women nominees. In 2016, she became a Laureate of the Prize in the name of Anna Politkovskaya, established by the international non-governmental organisation RAW in War (Reach All Women in War). In 2016, she was one of 16 laureates from different countries awarded the Franco-German prize for Human Rights and the Rule of Law.
